EVOL is a Berlin based artist who specialises in street art, specifically architectural stencils.

The cardboard stencils are my favourite. He creates a new world on a completely 2D surface, allowing a sense of depth and texture to dominate.

What struck me most about his work is its otherworldliness: he manages to transform a mundane object that you see everyday, into something unforgettably striking.

The prints are of tiny windows which are then made to look like building blocks. He sometimes incorporates characters that live inside these blocks, as well as balconies to make them more homie. They are pasted onto boring objects like power boxes and plant pots.

He has received the 2010 Arte Prize at Slick Art Fair in Paris, and has been nominated for the Premio Lissone Prize at the Museo d’arte contemporanea in Lissone, Italy.

The best thing about it? You can graff all over his work and it still looks amazing.

Katy Grannan

Today I went to the Saatchi Gallery and saw the Out of Focus: Photography exhibition and was particularly struck by Katy Grannan’s unique array of photographs.

I liked the combination of streetstyle versus portraiture and the weirdly wonderful styling in her ‘Anonymous’ collection. There is clearly a strong connection between Grannan and her subjects which is shown through the quality of her photographs.

Other than the Saatchi, the 43 year old has had her work exhibited at the Guggenheim Bilbao, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and The Orange County Museum of Art and a few others.

Usually when something interests me I save the name on my phone. Ray Massey’s name was saved (spelt wrong) and I forgot why, so I decided to research him again. I think it’s cos he made the Comfort ad.

He specialises in still life photography, as well as retouching and film making.

If you were thinking about spending over £100 on a pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s that everyone already has, there is no need (and no, the pair with studs on aren’t that great either).

If you are clever enough, much like Igor Dewe, then you can make your own shoes. Unconventional materials only of course. See sand, candle wax and fruit.

As everyone is poor and miserable maybe some tropical fruit will lighten up your life and gross feet.

Dewe has been featured in Madame Figaro, VICE, the Guardian and GQ. At barely 22 he has made a name for himself. He lives in Paris and performs, as well as designing.

MY NEW FAVOURITE PHOTOGRAPHER. After leafing through every copy of How to Spend it from the last 5 years I discovered Yuval Hen’s interesting images.

Nostalgia and romance combined, his work reminded me of that of Sarah Moon and Cecil Beaton.

Bil Durgin

He makes you look, and then look again.

Powerful photographer Bill Durgin graduated from Tufts University, Boston, with a BA in fine art in 1995. He then went on to do an MA at California College of Art in fine arts and finished in 2000.

His portfolio is fascinating, and no, not just because the figures are nude, rather the way in which he has played with contortions, and created an unusual shape from just the back of a human body, or the pelvis and so on.

Durgin has managed to portray the human body as very much a package deal. He has photographed his models so that they look extremely compact like that of a cat. The images are soulful and original and resonated in my mind.
